The newly established Bridge for Adolescent Pregnancy, Parenting, and
Sexuality Special Interest Group links the National Network for Health (NNH)
and the National Network for Family Resiliency (NNFR) so that
"bridges" are formed across the system. A position paper describes
Cooperative Extension's commitment to Adolescent Pregnancy, Parenting, and
Sexuality.
Adolescent pregnancy, parenting, and sexuality are issues that impact
teenagers, their children, their parents and their communities. Extension
will use it's interdisciplinary Children, Youth and Family networks to
provide leadership to marshal resources to build resiliency in children,
youth and families as they address the issues of: (1) adolescent sexuality,
(2) adolescent pregnancy and (3) adolescent parenting. In addition, Extension
will provide assistance to community-based projects and state strengthening
projects in those same areas.
Within the three focus areas of adolescent sexuality, pregnancy, and
parenting, the Bridge for Adolescent Pregnancy, Parenting, and Sexuality
(BAPPS) will:
- Develop position papers on Extension's role in
addressing each area of focus,
- Make existing model programs and
research-based curricula available,
- Develop and provide new resources,
- Provide program planning, implementation, and
evaluation guidelines and training,
- Provide internet resources that link to
existing programs both within the Extension system, as well as to other
agencies and organizations, and
- Collaborate with key federal, state, and
community stakeholders in our work to address these critical issues.
